Your name
Noemi Sparago
Place of birth
Caserta, Italy
Place where you live now
Roma, Italy
3 words to describe you
Ironic, Pragmatic, Driven-minded
Why do you take pictures?
I take pictures to analyze the world, to investigate how things transform over time. In general, I use photography as a pretext to connect with realities that fascinate me.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Cinema, Natural phenomena, Society
Who are your influences?
Larry Sultan, Paolo Ventura, Jansen Van Staden, Taryn Simon, Joan Fontcuberta
What determines the subject matter you choose?
I approach topics that touch me personally or that, on the contrary, intrigue me because they are far from my world. The topics I choose to cover is something I personally feel the need to explore further and which I believe is not well known in society.
What impact would you like your art to have?
I would like it to give a different interpretation to the phenomena I analyse, and to generate a constructive dialogue between different visions.
What artwork do you never get bored with?
I don't have an answer in mind. A work of art doesn't bore me when, looking at it, I discover something new that I didn't know before, so I think the right answer is that I don't get bored with anything that's new to me.
Is there anything you want to add?
No thanks!

Project statement

The project is a visual archive of water pistols, photographed using a systematic and typological approach. It explores the fine line between play and violence, childlike innocence and war iconography. The guns are neutralised, placed in a grey area between fiction and reality, with an aesthetic inspired by documentary and scientific practices. They become weapons that cannot hurt, but which retain the visual grammar of the threat intact. Through the irony of the medium, the project stages an imaginary arsenal, where the danger is fake, but the structures that represent it are real.
