Unrest
Visual Diary 2019-2021
Project statement

I easily feel worried. This sense of unease is of course somewhat troublesome, it takes a lot of energy. But I do not act upon these feelings. So most of all, these feelings fascinate me. I therefore decided to investigate this feeling of Unrest. Could I find it in nature? In the man across the street? Could I see it in everything? Was I mirroring myself onto my surroundings or could I actually see it? I was intrigued. Then Covid 19 hit and now this unrest was everywhere. Newspapers filled to the brim with dystopic tales of the world. The streets of my small hometown are normally quiet, now they were empty. I took my camera everywhere. Driving up and down the valley, here in the far north. The sense of unrest was so strong, through media we got a sense of a new world order. We filled our days with walks, books and play in between home schooling and work. My daughter played out her sense of the situation through role-play, putting some magic into a mundane life.

This series is photographed within in a short radius of my home, documenting my hometown and immediate family with staged and documentary photos.

«The unrest vibrates. It lifts me up and throws me down. My gaze recognizes it from a long distance. In nature and culture. In everything and in us all».
