Fragments of Being and Belonging
Project statement

My dad's archive of old family pictures holds many memories of pre-modern Nigeria. This project engages the dynamics of identity through the sociocultural concept of family by reconstructing a relationship between the past and the present, interrogating the material qualities of a physical photograph to create new realities, and exploring the importance attached to being a member of a family, such as receiving love and having a sense of belonging. Incorporating personal portraits into the images is my way of connecting to that history.
