issue #11 - winter 2024

A year ago we asked if you thought the year had flown by. Again we are acutely aware that the pace of change in the world has exponentially increased and will continue to accelerate in 2024. The climate crises will continue, wars will persist, and political landscapes will continue to shift. In photography and across all creative communities, not to mention in every aspect of life, the role of artificial intelligence will expand. As people worldwide rally for various causes, their collective power to enact change will become even more influential. We are quietly optimistic that this collective effort will illuminate a new and positive outlook for the world.

As artists, we have a dual responsibility. Not only do we have the ability to shine a light on the issues and challenges of the world, but we also have the power to raise our own consciousness and inspire others. Never underestimate the significance of showing up, your experiences and authentic artistic expression. Embrace your role in shaping the world and uplifting humanity through your art.

We at see-zeen are spoilt in New York and Berlin with photo fairs, festivals, openings, closings, talks by artists and industry leaders, shows - small and large - and specialty bookstores with artist and book publisher events! Yet there is still space in our brains to be inspired by the photographers we feature and the submissions we receive. When we tingle with excitement we know something is right.

In our feature Focus On Nordic Photography we continue to concentrate on a specific part of the world. We selected ten photographers from five countries in the Nordic region: Artist duo Inka and Niclas Lindergård and Elsa Gregersdotter from Sweden, Dane-Swede Matilde Søes Rasmussen; Fryd Frydendahl and Lise Johansson from Denmark; Jaakko Kahilaniemi and Essi Maaria Orpana from Finland; Icelandic Berglind Rögnvaldsdóttir; Terje Abusdal and Paulina Tamara from Norway.

Providing an insider’s perspective on contemporary photography within this region is Marie Wengler, from Denmark, a talented artist in her own right. She writes with deep admiration for her fellow Nordic artists.
